It’s a new year which means loads of new mixes. First up for 2011 is a mix from The Beat Broker. I’ve been keen to feature a Beat Broker mix for a while and over the Christmas period, the below mix dropped in my inbox. If you haven’t already checked out the Beat Broker website featuring all the releases and remixes, along with links to material on Soundcloud, then head over there and digest whilst listening to the mix.
The Beat Broker cites his earliest musical influences as radio synth pop and soon after, mid-80s hip-hop by such artists as Eric B. & Rakim and EPMD. It’s evident when listening to his work that these production styles of sampling, updating and remixing are a huge influence. When not producing records and releasing on labels such as Asphodel, Spectral, Traum and Sentrall with production partner Ryan Fitzgerald, they can be found DJing in San Francisco at their night called ‘Pop’. Over the last five years they’ve hosted guests such as Erland Oye, Brennan Green and Tako/Loud-E.
Over the last year the Broker has been working late in his office producing tracks and remixes for Eskimo, Add2Basket, Rebirth and Internasjonal to name a few. While continuing to make remixes and original tracks, the Beat Broker is constantly attempting to fuse old sounds with new ideas and create something for the crowd as well as the listener.
Enjoy the mix.
