Legends in Warrington Bootleg mix
Way back when on a Saturday afternoon it wasn’t uncommon for hundreds of people to start congregating on Warrington Rugby club’s car park. This wasn’t because the Wire were about to take on St Helens, it was all down to the party that was due to take place later that at nightclub called Legends.
The club was located on Priory Street of Wilderspool Causeway, previously a hot spot for late night dancing when it was the Fiesta club in the 1980s, it had now turned itself into one of the countries best underground House nights at the start of the 1990s.
The club opened in 1990 with DJs Steve Williams, Rich Garvin and Mike Woods. Darren Noguerol joined Mike in 1991.
Every Saturday night people travelled from miles around to go to Legends, with people starting to queue for a ticket early on a Saturday afternoon. It was during times when clubs didn’t need to rely on guests.
Last month some one gave me a tape from Legends, how ever this was different to all the rest, as the recording was from some one within the club itself, either with a dictaphone or other recording device. It’s hard to explain what the atmosphere was like in Legends and what the nights were about. You really did have to be there.
I’ve re-shared this post from over 4 years ago and the tape recording as in July as some of the original DJs are staging a reunion party at the Mersey View in Frodsham to raise money for charity. Over 500 tickets have already been sold in advance and it’s looking like a sell out.
There’s some ace records on this mix from times gone by. It’s all about 12 minute mark when Beatbusters – Let me tell you something drops.
Turn it up loud.
