Legends Reunion Warrington

Legends in Warrington Bootleg mix

Way back when on a Saturday afternoon it wasn’t uncommon for hundreds of people to start congregating on Warrington Rugby club’s car park. This wasn’t because the Wire were about to take on St Helens, it was all down to the party that was due to take place later that at nightclub called Legends.

The club was located on Priory Street of Wilderspool Causeway, previously a hot spot for late night dancing when it was the Fiesta club in the 1980s, it had now turned itself into one of the countries best underground House nights at the start of the 1990s.

The club opened in 1990 with DJs Steve Williams, Rich Garvin and Mike Woods. Darren Noguerol joined Mike in 1991.

Every Saturday night people travelled from miles around to go to Legends, with people starting to queue for a ticket early on a Saturday afternoon. It was during times when clubs didn’t need to rely on guests.

Last month some one gave me a tape from Legends, how ever this was different to all the rest, as the recording was from some one within the club itself, either with a dictaphone or other recording device. It’s hard to explain what the atmosphere was like in Legends and what the nights were about. You really did have to be there.

I’ve re-shared this post from over 4 years ago and the tape recording as in July as some of the original DJs are staging a reunion party at the Mersey View in Frodsham to raise money for charity. Over 500 tickets have already been sold in advance and it’s looking like a sell out.

There’s some ace records on this mix from times gone by. It’s all about 12 minute mark when Beatbusters – Let me tell you something drops.

Turn it up loud.

Lisa, get that video on youtube or google video asap.

This is a classic mix for me. I was @Legends virtually every saturday from late 1990 – 1993, when possible. This sounds like 1992, maybe laye 1991, with a groovier groove than mst of 1991.

    But who remembers 100%, eh?

Best night for me was NYE 1992.

    Encore!

MEMORIES…A HOT AND VERY SWEATY DARK LITTLE CLUB……AMAZING!!!!

  • Mike

I’m pretty sure this is the same bootleg which was taped by a mate of mine in summer of 91. John sat on a speaker all night with a top notch ‘walkman’ and a mic! He played it straight afterwards in the car park in the top field. Oh they were the days!

Just happened across some old tunes…wow.. loved it here, despite being a hot dark sweat pit,.. or maybe that’s what made it! I remember a song they used to play.. ‘cocaine, cocaine goes straight to your brain..’ anyone got any details on that? And what was the fab ‘Legend’ rock at the end of the night?
