June Singles Roundup
June’s been a bumper month for promos so far and we thought we’d give you a heads up on what’s coming up in the next few weeks.
First up is Danny Daze – Your Everything on Hot Creations, released on 4th July. This was a big Miami track but it’s ‘Fall Away’ the flip-side that’s got our attention – a proper slice of old school garage house.
Also released on 4th July and very much in a similar vein is Hector’s ‘The Ego EP’ on One Records. This is backed by Rob Mello & Tristan Da Cunha remixes but the original tracks are the business and they needn’t have bothered getting in the reworkers (no offence). Once again this is proper house tackle.
Art Department’s much talked about ‘We Call Love’ drops on the 4th on Crosstown Rebels, backed up with the DJ Harvey remix that people have been getting in a spin about. It’s good and recalls his remix of Ernest Saint Laurent’s ‘Clumbsy Lobster’ but Daphni’s off kilter remix is the one for us.
Drawing a busy 4th July to a close is a killer release on Nicolas Jaar’s ‘Clown and Sunset‘. Valentine Slip – Anytime Will Do is a four tracker of beautiful, low-slung chillwave. This EP is absolutely essential.
The 15th of July see’s the awesome covers package from Double Standard Records. Benoit and Sergio get all ‘Imagination’ with Daft Punk’s Around the World and weave a sleazy, horizontal take on the house masterpiece. On the flipside Slowhands take on Sade’s Sweetest Taboo and create the ultimate soft-core, serenader of the summer. Once again, an absolute must purchase.
Out the same day is the Lucky Paul remixes on Wolf & Lamb. Featuring a remix from Gadi Mizrahi & Eli Gold and Greg Paulus you know what you’re getting here. Deep, deep house produced with perfection.
Sticking to the Wolf & Lamb theme on the 21st July we get the Robert Owens ‘One Body – Interpretations’ project on Need Want featuring 4 acts’ take on a Robert Owens vocal. Nicholas, No Regular Play, Marius Basanov & Kaine tussle it out but it’s No Regular Play who emerge victorious.
The last 2 releases drop on the 25th of the month and both are ace.
Futureboogie’s ‘Summer Riot EP’ features tracks from Coat of Arms, Lukas and Behling and is a devastating collection of smooth disco house tracks very much in a Daniel Wang / Ray Many vein.
At the other end of the spectrum is M.A.N.D.E.A.R.’s ‘Buddies’ on Get Physical. This is a joint effort from M.A.N.D.Y. and Matthew Dear and features remixes from M.A.N.D.Y. , SIOPSIS, Smash TV and Radio Slave. Radio Slave mix is the one to watch here – skippy house that really builds. SIOPSIS remix is a worthy mention too, 6 minutes of twisted synth work.
So that’s that. Get saving up your pocket money. There’s plenty of excellent music coming up…
