All about us

Cosmic Disco is a collaboration of 3 friends/DJ’s (THP, Niles & Baggy) who came together to share musical ideas with as many people who would care to listen. Since 2006 we have been staging a number of intimate, low-key parties as well as showcasing the music we’ve collected and cherished over the last 15 years via our ‘Makin Music’ podcasts and weekly DJ residency at Manchester’s ‘Bar of The Year’ – Trof. This site also features uninterrupted DJ mixes and exclusive interviews from a number of our favourite artists/DJ’s, reviews, information on the hottest parties around as well as all the latest news from the world of Cosmic Disco. All house keeping carried out by our resident Meerkat. Hey, whilst you’re now here; go check out the message board and jump in!

I’ve always found unique ways to feed my obsession with vinyl & second hand shopping since it was pointed that I might have a small compulsion with hoarding pieces of dusty round plastic and woollen cardigans. Being brought up on a diet of blue eyed soul and classic Stax/Motown gave me a solid background for my interest in all things musical resulting in several stints during my teenage years jamming with local (mainly bad!) art school bands. With over 15 years of dedicated record collecting I’ve had the honour of DJ'ing to crowds of over 3000 people at the Snowbombing Festivals in France, Austria & Switzerland in addition to major parties at the Sonar & Beachbombing festivals in Barcelona as well as being invited to guest at parties and venues up and down the UK. In addition to contributing towards this site and associated podcasts if your ever in Manchester city centre you can catch me at our weekly Cosmic Disco residency at Trof (Northern Quarter) as well as 'Behind the Groove' at Mint Lounge and irregular appearances for good friends El Diablo’s Social Club.

I’m quite a late starter compared to the rest of the cosmic disco DJs when it comes to DJing and getting into ‘dance’ music. When I was a teenager; the music that I listened to ranged from the Clash, The Jam through to the Stranglers and I was equally impressed and influenced by front men like Bowie, Drury and Morrissey. My dad was a keen collector of records through out the 70s and 80s. Growing up in the Hill family household artists such as Fatback Band, Fat Larrys Band and Harry Thurmann were all regulars and would eventually leave a lasting impression with regards to my taste in music. In the past I’ve DJ’d all over the North West and promoted by own night along with some friends called Casa Musica. Guests came from Europe and the US with some of the best nights featuring music from Brett Johnson, Boo Williams and Casa favourite; Slater Hogan.

I enjoy: myPod, dancing like a dickhead, dressing up, dressing down, writing, castles, camping, films, staying up all weekend, live music, running in the rain, thunderstorms, lazy semi-clad Sundays, travelling, driving with the windows down, that one glass too many of good red wine, peanut butter, eating apples of the Braeburn variety, making epic cheesecakes, the smell of petrol and proper coffee, sugar free lollies, finding cheap flights online, lying on the decks of boats in the sun, being warm, washing up, folklore and mythology, all things French, overpriced designer products (with which I have an unhealthy obsession), slap n' tickle, updating my facebook profile, good skills. Pink Floyd. Other favourites, in no particular order, include Kings Of Leon, Guns 'N Roses, The Beatles, The Stones, The Kinks, The Gotan Project, Arctic Monkeys, G. Love, Cypress Hill, Chromeo, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Johnny Cash, Ian Brown, The Fratellis, Crosby Stills and Nash, The Scissor Sisters, UB40, Eric Clapton, Bruce Springsteen, Bob Dylan, The Zutons, Nirvana, Christina Aguilera, Indochine, I absolutely fucking love Barry Manilow, I think the O Brother Where Art Thou OST is pure genius, and Girls Aloud make me giddy.
