Harvey Presents Locussolus

Last year we were contacted by the guys at International Feel, a new record label based out of Uraguay, informing us of their project and manifesto which very much appealed to the sensibilities of vinyl collectors/music lovers such as ourselves with the focus on quality not quantity.
The finest underground artists coupled with a strong belief in the overall ‘Physical’ product was literally music to our ears as a focus was to be applied to the cover art, quality pressed vinyl and limited edition production aimed at the collector. This was backed up with a beautiful piano infused slo-mo house debut release as Rocha’s ‘Hands of Love’ was one of our favourite 12 inch releases of 2009. Not only was the original mix a stunner but remixes were featured from the likes of Mugwump, Reverso 68, Gatto Fritto and the legendary DJ Harvey.
22nd February 2010 sees International Feel Cat. No.IF003 released with no other than Harvey presenting his latest original body of work via the ‘Locussolus’ moniker. A project utilising the talents of a number of west coast US of A musicians the results are impressive indeed. Featuring two tracks ‘Gunship’ and ‘Little Boots’ the opener is an acid laced trip to the darkest recesses of space. As if trying to make contact with alien life forms ‘Gunship’ holds your head underwater, pulling you up for air just before losing consciousness. This is future house music at it’s finest.
‘Little Boots’ is a smackier affair to say the least, chugging along at just over 70bpm this is the ying to ‘Gunships’ yang. Driving guitar riffs coupled with disorientating effects are pulled back into line with a hypnotic synth-bass line. With a wah-wah solo Jimmy Page would be proud of this track would quite happily have lasted 15mins+ and it still would have kept my attention throughout.
With the possibility of a Locussolus long player in the pipeline Harvey only reinforces his legend with this stunning release. It’s no doubt going to be on a limited pressing on vinyl but for these who are foolish enough to pass up the black crack, you will have the opportunity to get yourselves a digital copy of the tracks via Juno download once the vinyl has been available for a while.
For those who want to check out both tracks, head over the ever brilliant Beats In Space where Tim Sweeney recently had the man himself in the studio where it sounds like they had a great laugh whilst digging through Harvey’s selections.
Seriously recommended, don’t let this pass under your radar…
