Pink Stallone – The Six
Posted on 12. Dec, 2009 by baggy in Reviews & Previews
Last month good friend and Italians Do It Better label owner; Mike Simonetti, was in town DJ’ing so we decided to hook up for a few hours and head out to north Manchester for a late afternoon dig around the used record stores. As a result we found some stunning pieces of vinyl of which Mike asked me to put together a mix of my finds for his excellent Viva Italians blog.
Whilst prepping some tracks (Mix coming soon…) I decided to pop over to the site and check out what fresh content he’s uploaded when I browsed upon some exciting news that fellow New Yorkers Pink Stallone were just about to drop their debut vinyl release.
Now, I’ve been playing out Pink Stallone’s ‘Vlad‘ for over 12 months and every time I’ve dropped it, people have headed over to the booth to enquire what it is they were hearing, so after a few minutes navigating the official Pink Stallone website and a quick email to the chaps begging them to save me a copy of their new release, I received a swift reply explaining that UK music lovers could order their copy of ‘The Six‘ from no other than Rough Trade records thus saving £’s on expensive shipping fees.
After listening to the sound clips of we can safely reassure you that this is a record you should not be without, as it features the vocal talents of 1980’s garage supremo; Joey Washington (Strictly Rhythm, Gee Tee Records etc.) – Just check out this awesome video of the guys in rehearsal at their Vietcong Disco HQ recently.
In the email reply we received the guys also had a few words to say about ‘The Six’:
Although I wouldn’t necessarily jump to categorise these tracks as ‘Cosmic’ I think the sounds could be from the part of space where there are a lot of asteroids (Whereas generally the cosmic disco we all love and understand is usually more like the part of space where you can float in endless inertia without hitting anything for eternity). Sometimes it’s hard for me to project a cosmic attitude because the reality of my life and where I am from is probably too present in the sounds. I wouldn’t say this record is an exact depiction of our realities either but it strives for a sense of empowerment and ownership of something (That’s where the Disco comes in I guess…), but maybe just not space. I digress but yes, ownership of space would be great and the cosmic disco record that would follow would also be exciting!
Not only that but they have also been kind enough to allow us to host the radio edit of ‘The Six’ and their latest edit ‘Love To Love You Maybe’ for your download pleasure (See links below – Both Awesome!) so make sure you return the favour and help spread the word…
Get on this release and support vinyl by getting your copy of the record from Rough Trade before they are gone.
Limited to 500 copies worldwide this release is pressed onto 140g vinyl with individually hand printed jackets by Pink Stallone themselves. If Rough Trade sell out (Or you are a non UK readers) then head over to Viva Italians or Pink Stallone who are also selling copies themselves.
RECOMMENDED!
