House of House – Rushing To Paradise (Walkin’ The Streets) [DJ Harvey Remix]

House of House – Rushing To Paradise (Walkin’ The Streets) [DJ Harvey Remix]

I have been championing this track for some time now. Initially released on cult and elitist label Whatever We Want at an extortionate price, the 12″ disappeared quickly from the shops and just added to the myth of a song that did not need it because it stands on its own league. Massive, epic, emotional – all kinds of adjectives were juxtaposed to ‘Rushing To Paradise (Walkin’ These Streets)’. This is quite long track but it needs to be played in its own entirety. The record appeared, few people fetched it, and witnessing the high desirability the record achieved, it was sold at prices rounding the three digits on Discogs or EBay. The record was in the hands of a few…

However, it is with us again, this time a House of House own release. Mass produced for mass enjoyment. And attention needs to also be paid to the B-Side as it includes a Harvey mix. I have no commission on promoting it. I just think it is, together with Still Going’s ‘Spaghetti Circus’, the most accomplished and effective track of the year.

It will be on the best music outlets around mid-december. Here you have some very well written release notes:

Throughout time, dance music has been celebrated in singular moments of contained chaos. It is night music, absorbed by ‘The People’ in environments tucked away from mainstream society. To ‘The People’, the 12″ and not the LP was king. These were records made to move masses with little more than a kick drum, hi-hat and a bass line. Needles would drop, crowds would rejoice. Simple science, thoroughly tested and assuredly proven. In early 2009, NYC-based duo House of House honoured that rich history by creating and releasing the beast that is the ‘Rushing To Paradise’ 12″ on cult label Whatever We Want Records. Instantly coveted and championed by cutting edge DJs, record collectors and cultural connoisseurs, ‘Rushing To Paradise’ quickly moved up into the upper echelon of ‘years’ best’ lists, even before the record’s official release date. When the extremely limited run finally did hit stores, it instantly sold out and became ‘the’ song of many memorable evenings across the globe. Clocking in at 13 minutes and weaving through the highest peaks and deep valleys of human emotion as well as the history of house music, House of House became synonymous with the word ‘Epic’. Repeated requests followed from eager clubbers, itching to experience the fabled hysteria the track would inspire when played. As the legend grew, the scarcity of the 12″ itself intensified, disappearing from those select few record shops who managed to initially wrangle a few copies and began fetching upwards of £100 price tags on online auction sites. Due to scarcity, ‘Rushing To Paradise’ was no longer music for ‘The People’. Fast-forward to the present time, House of House let the beast out again . . . and this time, it’s stronger. With an accompanying remix from the infamous DJ Harvey (also the first DJ to support House of House), the ‘Rushing To Paradise’ 12″ remix package is made for dance floor domination.

People, your music has returned.

Any news on reports I’m hearing the A-side is badly pressed? This stopped me buying it at the moment… Am I wrong to do so?! Please say its fine… ;)

    hi bernardo and all,

my own copy (purchased at piccadilly in manchester) sounds phenomenal. I am not an erudite in hi-fi sound but it certainly sounds proper. Both sides.

Hope the rest of you are lucky and do not get across a bad copy. Give it a listen if you are buying it in a ‘physical’ shop and not online.

There are no reports about a digital version and I very much doubt there will be one. In any case, there are 2500 copies of this 12″ that need to sell out firstly.

    UPDATE:

Bernardo was right at the end. After careful and loud listening, the original of ‘Rushing To Paradise’ sounds awful.

Nothing compared to the WhateverWeWant copy. B-Side sounds crisp and you still should buy it for the Harvey mix… but be warned (thanks to those who arose the issue) that the A-Side (original) lacks bass and overall it comes to sound worse than a 128kbps mp3.

I did not notice the first time because I played at quite low volume and did not realize. Sorry.
