Naum Gabo – Pictur [TINAE]

Thisisnotanexit may be releasing a 12″ every month, but they do not diminish in quality. They keeps getting better and better…

The latest instalment is from Naum Gabo, not the Russian sculptor pioneer in kinetic art (He is, unfortunately dead), but two Scottish guys, James Savage and Jonnie Wilkes. They remixed Detachment’s ‘Fear No Fear’ to great effect and have released excellent music on Dissident and have remixed Franz Ferdinand and Hot Chip among many others. However, it is their turn to suffer (Or enjoy…) the remix treatment. In this instance, they definitely must be appreciating the work put into ‘Pictur’ by French maestro and eminence of melodic synths, Joakim, and The Loving Hand a.k.a. Tim Goldsworthy.

My fave, (And I am probably biased here because my reverence to anything that he puts his hands on is the Joakim asyncopated trip into an acidic and electroid space…) is a piece of music that will rock the most discerning dancefloors. It is not easy, in the sense, that is not a monolithic track, as it has its up and downs in terms of energy but it keeps the climax right up there. It builds and builds and does not let go. This is Joakim at his best.

Tim Goldsworthy on the other side keep things simple. A treat on a more Italo vein with an emotive string arrangement on top and catching bassline. Although this is the one that will keep punters happy, I have a tendency to be complicated, and Joakim takes the cake!

It also comes in a lovely arty cover. Grab it at Juno or Piccadilly Records now.

Well done once again Thisisnotanexit.
