Futuresonic is Manchester’s annual urban festival of art, music and ideas.
Taking place from 13th-16th May 2009, this year’s event featured world premieres of astonishing artworks, an explosive city wide music programme and visionary thinkers from around the world.
Now in it’s 14th year, Futuresonic is the UK’s leading festival for digital culture and was nominated for the prestigious Lever Arts Prize where over 50,000 visitors engaged with over 300 artists at over 100 events across 30 venues.
As part of the music programme Cosmic Disco (In conjunction with Samurai FM) were asked to host an evening that celebrated the DJ as auteur and educator, featuring figures who have irreversibly changed the musical landscape of their respective arenas through consistent and headstrong selections, carving out their own groove for the rest of the dance floor to follow.
We were honoured to welcome no other than Daniele Baldelli, who operated in the late 1970′s/early 80′s at the seminal Italian club – Cosmic, in addition to James Holroyd who commanded dancers at hallowed clubs Bugged Out! and Back to Basics.
The event took place on Saturday 16th May at Manchester’s Deaf Institute (Pics from the event can be found here) and DJ support on the evening came from your very own Cosmic Disco residents where we warmed up the crowd for the opening 2hrs from 9-11pm before James Holroyd hit the decks prior to Baldelli.
The below mix is 94 minutes of our live set (We missed the opening 30 mins!) where the three of us played one on-one off, featuring a selection of early evening downtempo rollers, balearic beats and slo-mo house setting the scene for what was an amazing evening of music.
