OK, mad busy week means we are playing catch-up somewhat.
Still, here’s another belter of a mix provided by ‘Leslie Salvador‘:
Luke Brown originally from Melbourne Australia, doesn’t elude much to his DJ history past or present, but under the guidance of his business partner states “I discovered credible music — finally” after DJing in the Notorious Electro duo GapTooth, that released through Opulent Magazines 2007 summer mix ‘teething problems’.
Luke realised that his love for watching people lose their minds, break bottles, hang from rafters, head-but each other and cause general mayhem, became more like playing in a metal band as “it was for the crowd — and no longer myself” GapTooth came to a mutual end as they were simply ‘worn out’ after supporting acts like, Justice and MSTRKRFT.
This end was the turning point for Luke he simply wanted people to dance and make out on the dance floor instead of launch themselves from first story balconies. Through his business partner and good friend Luke found a deep love for crate digging, searching out weird balearic nonsense and mumbo jumbo that people wouldn’t normally play, this love lead him to find peace again and a deep love for what he describes as “credible music”.
Soon after Luke scrapped the Alter Ego and started playing under his own name. Playing music that inspired him and that enabled people to ‘dance again’.
Ricardo originally from Los Angeles, California, began DJing in the late 90′s underground party scene. Influenced by this culture, he began to start Djing. Soon enough he found himself instead of on the dance floor, Djing for culture and people he loved. In 2002 he began working with Wax Records and the term “record junkie” was no joke. Working at Wax Records gave him all the tools and sounds he needed to push further along. Promoting and playing clubs was a regular thing for him, but regular things come to an end when you are in a big city like Los Angeles, “everything is just a phase”.
In searching for a life in the party scene, he ran into an old friend and began throwing small underground parties. Parties with acts such as David Mancuso, Dj Harvey, and Rub n’ Tug. Throwing these parties was highly motivational for him and this motivation took him a step further.
Ricardo being a party kid, but also an educated man found himself wanting to further his education moved to Melbourne, Australia. In the wee hours of a shady mourning at a Todd Terje gig at Revolver in Melbourne, Luke met Ricardo or was it Ricardo’s crazy dancing that attracted Luke’s eyes, we will never know.
Luke Brown & Ricardo Ramos found a bond through music and spent many late nights in studio mixing records together and soon found their styles were complimentary and yet unique. They called themselves Leslie Salvador a combination of both their middle names. So Far they have a Friday Residency @ Match bar in Melbourne where they generally play a 6 hour set of Balearic obscurities and later in the night move onto disco / house and detroit techno.
Luke and Ricardo also play in what’s been labelled as Melbourne’s Answer to Bang Gang, a 6 man strong Dj force called MANDATE, Comprising of Luke Brown, Ricardo Ramos, LDJ (Liege Jansen), Spike Acid, and Thom Kernot (DJ Sweat), where you can hear anything from, Acid House, New Beat, Electro, Minimal Techno and Tribal House.
Leslie Salvador has played with the likes of Johnny From Lazermagnetic, Hey Convict & Joakim, you can see them regularly and Match Bar, La Di Da and Revolver Upstairs in Melbourne…
