Ian Martin – Out of Time
Posted on 09. Jan, 2009 by baggy in Mixes we didn't make
This week’s guest offering comes from Netherlands based Ian Martin.
After being blown away by one of his previous mixes entitled ‘Dark City’ we are excited to bring you a Cosmic Disco exclusive selection of 1970’s to present day synth-wave, EBM, experimental and industrial tracks on ‘Out of Time’.
Ian Martin is a 29 year old Dutch/French DJ, artist & producer who now resides in Rotterdam, Holland. Inspired by a weekly radio show called ‘DJ Element’ (Aired on VPRO national Dutch radio), ‘Element’ featured all kinds of dance music. Ian started DJ’ing and collecting records back in 1997 and was literally blown away when he heard an electro mix by I-F that was played on VPRO earlier that year.
As a direct result Ian started to organise parties that catered for this style of music in his part of the Netherlands.
In 2004 he discovered the then new, Cybernetic Broadcasting System that was also ran by I-F. Ian created and submitted numerous mixes for CBS that were aired regularly and critically acclaimed by it’s listeners. Ian’s mixes are described as moody, electric and deep.
From 2005 onwards Ian organised more parties such as Spin Palace (Rotterdam) in partnership with Roberto Auser. These parties were a huge success and featured appearances from a number of top DJ’s and live acts such as Loud E, Tako and Legowelt. Held in intimate surroundings, Spin Palace made for some very special experiences.
Ian then attended the Red Bull Music Academy (RBMA) in Seattle where he was lucky enough to meet Legowelt and Larry Heard amongst others. It was during this time he spent at the RBMS studios where he first came into contact with a synthesizer. These machines had a huge impact and opened up the world of music production.
In 2007 came a performance at the Sonar Festival (Barcelona) followed by his first movie for which he also composed the original soundtrack. More productions were to follow along with a number of collaborations with Roberto Auser and others.
Last year Ian expanded on his live output by performing a unique live concert accompanied by a pianist and guitarist from the Rotterdam Conservatory.
Keep an eye out for Ian as his first solo release is scheduled on one of Holland’s most reknown record labels and for those in London you can catch Ian in the flesh spinning his deep and moody sounds alongside Roberto Auser at Dream Machine – A10 Russian Bar, Kingsland Road, North London on Saturday 31st January – Go check him out!
