Steve Kotey - Warm Up at the Ambassador’s Reception

Steve Kotey is a busy man.
He runs the highly successful Bearfunk label for a start - home to such nu-disco luminaries as Todd Terje, Fabrizio Mamarella, Lindstrom, The Diaphanoids and the Idjut Boys.
He’s also part of Chicken Lips these days, joining them for live, DJ and Studio dates.
Oh, and he just compiled the utterly essential Disco Italia compilation for Strutt.
Last but not least Steve had just started another lable, this time in conjunction with Loud-E. The Ambassador’s Reception is, well, I’ll use THP’s method and let Steve do the talking.
Ambassador’s Reception Prepare your ears for a treat. After travelling the world and uniting nations with their disco diplomacy, the foreign minister has called time on the ambassador’s disco adventures. As they are recently retired the ambassador’s felt it best the world knew what really like to be spoilt at the reception.
During their time as globetrotting diplomats, the Ambassador’s would spend all their free time and unlimited funds hunting down some of the most sought after and soon to be sought after disco music. They would then use this music and throw one of their now legendary reception parties. It started as a good way to let the delegates relax whilst solving the major issues of the world, it was a place where the rich and famous would mingle with even more rich and famous. The champagne was the best of the best, the food was the best of the best, the chocolates (choc on the rocks) were (well you know what they were!) and the DJ’s were the best of the best.
Word spread of the debauchery and decadence the Ambassador’s Reception had to offer and every wannabe film star, model, football player would give there right arm to get in. As the parties got bigger and busier the ambassador’s where unable to carry on playing the music as there diplomatic duties were compromised when the French Presidents wife insisted on giving the DJ’s a blow because the music was that good she came for the first time in 14 years. It did not go down to well with French contingent. The ambassador’s had to find new DJ’s, so they sent their agents to find the like-minded deejays that could rock their V.I.P The agents searched the globe brought back two disco freaks, a Dutch robot DJ called Loud-E and an English obsessive by the name of Stevie Kotey.
Within the first month they took the party to a new level with their blend of oddball synthesizer,-ethnic-library-afro-disco. They also had more time to prepare for the parties, and would spend weeks searching for disco worthy of the Ambassadors Reception.
For them cd means nothing more then corpse diplomatique. After keeping all the tricks ,edits, and information about the reception secret for many years the DJ’s finally agreed to share there music with us by way of special limited run vinyl and now and again an ultra exclusive CD. In the end the ambassadors job is to unite countries, people and visions. Their blend represents all flavours of the world. It will bring you to a height from were the world looks like a coloured discoball! The only thing missing now is that phat dripping chocolade saus changing it into that famous brown sweety!
So there you go.
A tracklist is due to follow but given this man’s current output I think we should all be grateful for the music. I’m sure all you spotters out there can ID the tracks anyway.
