B Hill - Various Jazz/Funk

Proto Booze Britain

Transferred to MP3 direct from a battered old Maxell c90, this is the second compilation we’ve featured on the site from B Hill (Niles’ Dad for those not paying attention).

A regular at North West nightclubs Angels and Blackpool Mecca, he picked up id’s from legendary dj’s Ian Levine and Richard Searling which were then purchased on 12″ imports on East Lancashire Market stalls.

It’s a well-worn cliche but the amount of music that I picked up on from my dad is unreal - the vast majority of tracks on this tape are regularly in my bag and the list of artists he introduced me to is endless - Fatback, Stephanie Mills, Eddie Henderson, Jan Hammer, Art of Noise, Alan Parsons Project, Ultravox, Eurythmics, Midnight Star, Whispers, Ramsey Lewis, Dave Grusin.

This is a tape he put together at the tail end of the 70’s and is an authentic look at the music that influenced my biggest influence.

He’s the one with the hooped top drinking the ale. The guy who looks like an extra from the warriors.

Thanks a lot - glad you’re enjoying it
It’s just missing Stephanie Mills, Evelyn ‘Champagne’ King, and the Whispers in my mind.
Aside from the Angels and Blackpool Mecca Sunday nights in Ribchester at the Lodestar were where it was at.
They had to to serve food (fish and chips or sausage and chips bundled in with the entry price) just to have a music license past 11:30.
It wasn’t all about drinking though - it was all about the music in those days.
(Although I did get pissed at the Angels a lot)

The photo is of me and Josh (John Barker) in Lloret De Mar. In it’s time the Magaluf/Ibiza Hybrid of the 70’s.

Mixes made by people well over 40 are the best.

    Bollocks to you youngsters.

    This looks ace.

I got a massive legacy of music from my dad. He has been gone ten years now, but I will never forget the musical knowledge he gave me. His carefully anote tapes are a true gift.

Inhereting music from your parents is the best .

Bigging them up on the internet and posting a mix is even better.

One of the best things I have seen on the internet.
