Sparks 21×21 - 21 albums in 21 nights!

Flyer for the 21x21 series of Sparks concerts

Brothers Ron and Russell Mael aka The Sparks are set to release what will be their TWENTY FIRST album!

In an unprecedented feat they have decided that to celebrate the launch of their new album they would perform 21 gigs where on each individual date they would play one of their albums in it’s entirety. That’s every single song off every single album! 21 albums over 21 nights culminating with the premiere performance of the new LP.

Let’s put this into context… that’s approx. 250 songs = 4,825,273 notes!

The concept; typically Sparks, has already kicked off (The 1st date was 16th May performing Halfnelson/Sparks 1971/2 respectively) and you may have already caught the brothers promoting the gigs on recent radio interviews/TV appearences but we thought we just had to mention what for us is the standout Sparks album - 1979’s Giorgio Moroder produced ‘No.1 In Heaven’ which will be performed at Islington’s Carling Academy on 25th May.

Oddball pop and driving disco combined to make what was the best Sparks album in years. The release had chart success with ‘Number One Song In Heaven’ and solid album fodder such as ‘La Dolce Vita’ but the standout tracks for us have to be the Baldelli fave ‘Beat The Clock’ and the amazingly bizarre ‘Tryouts For The Human Race’. The album was a surprising success both on commercial and artistic levels as neither the Mael brothers nor Moroder compromised any of their respective idosyncricies in completing the album. A masterpeice in every sense of the word for those lucky enough to be attending the performance of this album you’ll be in for an amazing evening’s entertainment.

Tickets for the gig(s) cost £23.50 inc. processing and service charge (Tickets on collection at venue), so for those within the vicinity of the capital this is an event the likes of which will never be witnessed again.

The world premiere of The Sparks new album will be held at The Sheperds Bush Empire on June 13th.
