Jonnycash talks Italia 90 and music

Playing on the cassette in the bedroom was; The Mondays, St Ettienne, Flowered Up. Blaring out the telly; Three Tenors belting out Nasa Dorma, as Brehme slotted his penalty away in the 85th minute.

The clothes on my back; Italy away top, Ball Jeans and Puma States. Entertaining me on the dance floor of the clubs was this music.

I don’t recognise the first few tracks but it’s all coming back to me now.

“Party time is any time and any time is party time”

Like my limited knowledge about ‘dance’ music, my knowledge of the World Cup 1990 is also limited. In fact I don’t remember a great deal, I have vague recollections of the England versus Cameroon game in the local and who can forget Schillaci scoring all the goals. I didn’t get to see a lot of the games on the box as I was too busy sat out round the back of the chippy getting stoned till the early hours every night.

The ritual was virtually the same every Summer night. If it was sunny, you would sit on the wall of the local, making a pint of Bitter (75p) last all night. Then all 5 or 6 of the gang chipping in (sometime on tick) for a tenner deal when the local dealer entered the pub. Then off it was to pitch up outside the chippy. One or two would do the rolling as the others were incapable and would only ruin and waste valuable skins & baccy. So if you had mastered the craft like me, it gave the chance for plenty of front loading to happen. The arguments become so ferocious sometimes, a neutral would be selected to do the burn and crumble. And there we would sit giggling away like mad banshees, amazing really as it was just shit normal rocky?? Its weird ain’t it? Back then you used to get absolutely monged on shit weed!! Where as today I get more of a buzz off a Marlboro light than I do off a rocky spliff. Anyway …

“What happened to the music?”

Here it is just about to go full belt into “I Feel It”

“I’ll give you love and every part of me” … “in my house” … yeah!

Great mix fellas … good memories.
